The director of the Edinburgh Fringe, Jon Morgan, has stepped down after little more than a year in the job. Morgan, who I would still feel justified in describing as the ‘new’ director, claims that the role took him away from his true passion: theatre.
I don’t think anyone is likely to believe this.
This year’s ticketing [...]

Simon Munnery: Annual General Meeting 2008
The Stand, Monday 18th August 4.10pm
Prologue
I like The Stand, and even if you hated it you’d have to concede that having a 5-minute interval in a stand-up show is a wonderful thing. Stretch, piss, drinks. More of this, please.
Review
Simon Munnery is wilfully alternative, and not for everyone – only those [...]

Robin Ince: Bleeding Heart Liberal
White Horse, Tuesday 19th August 6.55pm
The first annual Stalking Robin Ince Day drew to a close with a performance of his new solo show Bleeding Heart Liberal at a small pub on the Royal Mile. The White Horse is a regular host of Free Fringe events, and last year we saw [...]

Ivan Brackenbury’s Hospital Radio Christmas Show
Upstairs @ Pleasance Courtyard, Saturday 23rd August 4.45pm
Update: The performer, Tom Binns, feels that this review misrepresents his show. You can read his views on the comments thread.
I don’t want to say too much about this show – not least because I have eight more acts to review and I’m [...]

Robin Ince: Carl Sagan is My God oh and Richard Feynman Too
Nicol Edwards Banqueting Hall, Tuesday 19th August 1.45pm
Last year we stalked Robin Ince by accident, seeing his solo show, his Book Club, his appearance on the Early Edition* and even his movie (the very likeable Razzle Dazzle) at the Edinburgh Film Festival, all without [...]

Stefan Golaszewski Speaks About A Girl He Once Loved
Attic @ Pleasance Courtyard, Saturday 23rd August 3.15pm
We picked this one pretty much at random – I can’t even remember where I first saw it advertised – but in the time between buying tickets and finally seeing it on the last Saturday of the Fringe, Stefan Golaszewski [...]
David O’Doherty wins if.comedy award 2008
August 24, 2008
From the Guardian: “David O’Doherty has taken home the main prize at the if.comedy awards – formerly known as the Perriers – in Edinburgh, the most prestigious accolade of its kind.”
Genuine newcomer Sarah Millican won the best newcomer award for her show about her divorce.
I did not see either act this year. I am sorry [...]
Richard Herring: The Headmaster’s Son

Richard Herring: The Headmaster’s Son
White Belly @ Smirnoff Underbelly, Saturday 16th August 7.30pm
Richard Herring is always a safe pair of hands at the Fringe, even if those hands are freakishly small, like those of a 9-year old girl.
It’s his 180th show and 700th year at the Fringe (probably) since he first ventured up with the [...]

These two crazy kids just got nominated for the if.comedy awards. Well done kids!
On the left is Kristen Schaal, now semi-famous from the wonderful Flight of the Conchords as the band’s psychotic stalker Mel. On the right is [...]
